USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY REDUCES A SENSE OF SOCIAL ISOLATION IN LATER LIFE
Abstract
Abstract - The purpose of this study was to examine if time use of information and communication technology (ICT), positive affect associated with ICT, and social support correlated negatively with a sense of social isolation in later life. A sample of 200 older adults completed in-person surveys measuring ICT time use, positive affect associated with ICT, social support, and a sense of social isolation. Multiple regression was used to analyze data. Results showed that ICT time use, positive affect associated with ICT, and social support significantly predicted social isolation.
