PRAIRIE LITERATURE-TAKING EXAMPLES FROM CHINGIZ AYTMATOV AND ZHANG CHENGZHI
Abstract
Abstract - Prairie literature is a special literary trend in modern literature originated from a nomadic cultural background as opposed to a sedentary culture. Traditional nomads such as the Mongols and the Turkic-speaking ethnic groups Authors from nomadic cultural background show distinct features in their writing styles, motifs, attitudes and values. Through studies towards the works of Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aytmatov and Chinese writer Zhang Chengzhi, the following features are found in prairie literature: 1) a deep concern of “human-nature” relationship and care about the moral principles of individuals; 2) the problem of national identity and transformation of old identification bases, which went along the search for “Personal Self” and interest to the human fate; 3) dialecticism of figurative thinking revealing the harmonious understanding of deep social processes and the beauty of nature; 4) moral responsibility of generation for generation, which was conditioned by religious principles.
