Antifungal Effect of Melissa Officinalis and Myrtus Communis Essential Oils

Abstract
In vitro studyof the vapor antifungal activity of three different volumes of Melissa off icinalis (lemon balm) and Myrtuscommunis(myrtle) essential oils on the mycelial growth of eight significant plant pathogens. The antifungal activity of essential oils depends on the type of essential oil, pathogen species and applied volume.Myrtle oil does not inhibit the growth of the mycelium of Sclerotiniasclerotiorum, Alternariaradicina, Botrytis cinerea and Verticilliumdahliae and lemon balm oil does not inhibit the growth of S. sclerotiorum, Alternariaradicina and V. dahliaeeven at the highest applied amount.Compared to control, the both investigated essential oils at all applied amounts inhibit significantly the mycelial growth of Monilinialaxa.
