EXPLORING THE LINK BETWEEN CLIMATE CONDITIONS AND WATER MANAGEMENT EFFICIENCY: A CASE STUDY OF TENERIFE, SPAIN

Abstract
Abstract - Water scarcity poses a significant challenge, particularly in island destinations with significant tourism activity. To effectively manage this resource, it is imperative to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the variables that influence its consumption. This study aims to analyze the impact of climatic variables on water consumption within a hotel company. To achieve this objective, monthly water use data spanning nine years from two different hotels located on the island of Tenerife, Spain was used. Tenerife is already known for its challenges in water management and its relevant tourism activity. This research explores the relationship between climatic conditions including average air temperature (minimum, maximum and average), precipitation and water usage at these selected hotels. The findings do not indicate a significant correlation between climatic factors and water consumption. This result should be verified by conducting studies in other geographical areas with more extreme temperatures, before being able to conclude that in areas with a stable climate, water consumption is not significantly affected by certain climatic variables.
