Paper Title
ADSORPTION OF CRYSTAL VIOLET USING GEOPOLYMERS PRODUCED FROM FLY ASH
Abstract
Abstract - Textile industry, one of the most growing and sustained industries, has a reputation as a polluting sector globally. Geopolymers are promising materials which are using as adsorbents in textile wastewater treatment.
In this study, textile industry wastewater containing crystal violet dye was treated with adsorption technique. For this purpose, two different geopolymers produced from fly ash, activated with alkaline solution and cured at 120oC for 15 h (Geopolymer-1, G1) and 24 h (Geopolymer-2; G2), were used as adsorbent. The effects of operational parameters such as adsorbent amount, pH, dye concentration, temperature and contact time on the dye removal efficiency were determined. The dye removal increased with the increasing adsorbent amount from 0.004g/mL to 0.02g/mL, pH from 2 to 9, temperature from 20 to 40oC but decreased with the increasing dye concentration from 0.01M to 0.05M. As a result of the experimental study, the dye removal efficiency of 91% and 89% were obtained at adsorbent concentration of 0.02 g/mL, dye concentration of 0.03 M, the temperature of 20 °C and the pH of 9.
In conclusion, it can be said that geopolymers produced from fly ash can be used successfully to the treatment of textile industry wastewater with high removal efficiencies.
