SERUM INTERLEUKIN-22IS ASSOCIATED WITH HYPERGLYCEMIA IN SAMPLE OF IRAQI PATIENTS WITH DIABETIC-END STAGE RENAL DISEASE

Abstract
Abstract - Recent data pointed to the possible role of Interleukin(IL-22) in developing metabolic disorders. The present work aimed to identify the association of serum IL-22 level with glucose level in sample of Iraqi patients with diabetic- end stage renal disease( ESRD). The study is a cross-sectional study involved 74 participants, 43 males and 32 females, all with diabetic with Type 2Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) ESRD with estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) less than 15 ml/min. / 1.73 m2 and strict to hemodialysis protocol, thrice week, each session of 4 hrs. Laboratory investigations included routine biochemical tests, IL-22 and Hepcidin serum levels were detected by enzyme immunosorbent assay. The correlation of variables were determined according to “Pearson correlate test. IL-22 was approved to possess a significant positive correlation with glucose level, r= 0.345, P-value 0.003. While no correlation was detected with Hepcidin, Hb, Iron and ferritin; r=- 0.001, p-value 0.991; r= 0.066, p-value 0.577; r= 0.097, p-value 0.412;r= 0.147, p-value 0.213; respectively. According to this finding,IL-22 should be considered as a possible therapeutic agent to modulate hemodialysis- associated hyperglycemia Keywords: ESRD, IL-22, Hyperglycemia, Hepcidin
