PROBIOTIC POTENTIAL OF LACTIPLANTIBACILLUS PENTOSUS GAMBIR ISOLATE FOR MASTITIS IN CATTLE

Abstract
Abstract - The Gambir plant is a shrub plant belonging to the Rubiace family. Gambir is usually obtained from extraction from the leaves and young twigs of the plant. Gambir contains tannic catechins, catechins, polyphenols, florican, wax, and fixed oil, and Gambir has much forgiveness namely as a treatment of wounds, gastrointestinal diseases, bacterial/fungal infections, fever, diabetes, rheumatism, dysentery and inflammation of the urinary tract. This study aimed to determine the potential of lactic acid bacteria isolated from Gambir for mastitis in cattle. The results showed that lactiplantibacillus pentosus has antimicrobial activity against mastitis-causing bacteria, namely Escherichia coli O157 (8.23 mm) and Staphylococcus aureus (9.14 mm). The results of this study show that lactic acid bacteria from Gambier isolate have the potential as probiotics because they can inhibit pathogenic bacteria that cause mastitis.
