THE TRANSFORMATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION: CHALLENGES AND PERSPECTIVES FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
Abstract
Abstract - Due to the challenges and opportunities created by technological progress and changes in sciences, philosophy, culture, and economy, the management of the university also needs to be transformed in accordance with modern requirements.
This paper presents the challenges and perspectives of study programs implemented at Latvian HEI in the field of education.To provide the best possible education in 21st century society, it is important that teachers acquire new skills and competencies that can help them become learning facilitators and enable students to prepare for the future. The transformation of teacher training programs in Latvia has outlined the prospects for their development: in 2018-2019 there were new study programs of various levels in the field of education have been developed.
In order to determine the challenges and perspectives of study programs’ implementation at Latvian HEI in the field of education,a qualitative semi-structured interview method was used in the study. Intervieweers were managers of different level in education field, employers in education sector as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science in Latvia.
Within the frame of this research, transformation directions of organization and management of study programs in education field were put forward: development of partnership in the implementation and improvement of study programs as well as development of internal and external mentoring. In order to improve the effectiveness of the study quality assurance system, it is important to involve the public, graduates, employers and interested parties in the creation/expansion of networks, as well as to ensure the unity of studies and research work.
