PROLONGEDPUPILLARY LIGHT REFLEXAFTER CARDIOPULMONARY ARREST WITH RESPIRATORY LIKE MOVEMENTS: A CASE REPORT

Abstract
Abstract - Introduction: Prolonged pupillary light reflex and/or de novo spinal motor reflexes may lead to diagnostic confusions in death determination. We report a curious case of delayed declaring death after cardiopulmonary arrest. Case summary: An 83-year-old Japanese woman admitted due to severe hypoxia. She had a past history of chronic lung disease and was diagnosed with its acute exacerbation. She had been declared delayed death after above 39 minutes of present pupillary light reflex after cardiopulmonary arrest accompanied by respiratory like movements. Conclusion: At present, we recommend to spend for the physicians above 10 minutes or necessary times in exceptional cases for the time from circulatory cessation to the declaration of death to rule out auto resuscitation. In the future, disclosure of unreported near-death phenomena is needed to accumulate evidence.
