EFFECTS OF EXCESSIVE SCREEN TIME DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract
Abstract - The pandemic of COVID-19 has started in starting of 2019 worldwide. The whole world has been forced to shift their daily routine activity with no contact and possibly online whether it is work, shopping, education, entertainment, etc. With this high effect of COVID-19 in India every organization whether it is work or education stopped offline and started everything online. With this online work and education system after sometimes people realize the major effects on their health. As their school, colleges, and working paces are shut down people have stopped their physical education, working at the workplace with colleagues, music, and dance which are the forms of physical health have stopped and started multiple problems. People need to find out the impact of excessive screen time on health, cognition, and behavior. In this research paper, we collect data from those who use different screens during the lockdown and before the lockdown for their professional, personal, or entertainment purposes from different areas in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The main objective of this paper is (1) To evaluate the frequency and duration of using screens, and screen addiction behaviors in students during the COVID-19 pandemic. (2) Examine the association of screen time with eating habits, physical activity levels, sleep quality, and depression symptoms.The correlation coefficient is used to find the relationship between variables. The paired t-test is used to test the mean differences between various groups. The Chi-square test determines whether there is an association between categorical variables (i.e., whether the variables are independent or related). MS Excel and R were used to carry out the analysis for this research project. Based on the analysis shows a high prevalence and association between screen time and physical health among students.
