THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL BELONGING ON TOURISM DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT: A STUDY ON LOCAL PEOPLE
Abstract
Abstract - A large part of the world has been affected by capitalism, modernization, and globalization. It is observed that the locality and human commitment have undergone changes in the regions reached by these elements. These changes brought alienation and lack of belonging towards the society in which individuals are living. This is indicated from the fact that tourism activity, which is a kind of field of the aforementioned elements, brings about changes in the social structures of societies. The aim of the study is to examine the levels of social belonging among the local people (n=452) living in Nevsehir provinces and districts located in Cappadocia Region, which is one of the cultural tourism centers of Turkey, and to determine the effect of these levels on tourism development support. In the study designed in a quantitative research pattern, a correlational method was used, and the data was collected through face-to-face survey technique using convenience sampling method. Cronbach's Alpha (α) coefficient was calculated to determine its reliability, and confirmatory factor analysis, descriptive, spearman brown correlation and simple regression analyses were used. The results has shown that as the social belonging levels of individuals increase, their attitudes towards tourism development support also increase.
