APPLICATION GENETIC ALGORITHM WITH CONTAINER VESSEL STOWAGE PROBLEM

Abstract
Abstract - The focus of this studylies in the optimization of container vessel stowage planning. A framework is initially established using Integer Programming (IP), to provide a fundamental structure for the stowage problem. Subsequently, a genetic algorithm (GA) is applied within this IP model, which aids in deriving the optimal stowage plan. Priority in container loading is a key element considered in this study. The goal is to identify the most efficient stowage arrangement that maximizes space utilization, minimizes container movements, and effectively reduces the dwell time of container vessels at ports. Various factors such as vessel stability and specific requirements are also taken into consideration. The success of this optimized approach is manifested through the experimental results, obtained from the application of the genetic algorithm in the IP model. The results show the promise of the genetic algorithm in providing an efficient solution to the container vessel stowage planning problem, while significantly reducing the number of container movements and port stay duration. This study contributes valuable insights to the field of container stowage optimization, enhancing the efficiency in container shipping operations.
