THE IMPACT OF AI ON "QUALITY" IN ARCHITECTURE: ANALYZING CHALLENGES AND PROPOSING PATHWAYS FOR INCORPORATING QUALITY

Abstract
Abstract - The pervasive influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has brought convenience and ease to various domains of our lives. However, it has also introduced significant drawbacks that profoundly affect quality in architecture. Initially, computers were used for visualization, optimization, and construction in architecture. However, recent advancements in AI, particularly parametric architecture and AI-based tools, have shifted the role of architects and made machines the primary agent of architectural designs. While this manifests progress, it raises important questions: What are the costs? What aspects of architecture might be overlooked in the fast-paced digitalization driven by AI? This research paper explores the qualitative criteria that may be compromised through the use of AI in architecture and proposes innovative approaches to ensure the incorporation of quality throughout the architectural process.
