Paper Title
RESEARCH STUDIES REGARDING THE RECYCLING OF WASTE SLAG TO IMPROVE SOIL ACIDITY
Abstract
Abstract - One of the major problems in the steel industry today is the production of large amounts of waste. Slag is a by-product from the steel industry that is formed during the melting or production of metal by thermal means. The EU's HORIZON 2020 program provides for the support of the ecological economy and one of the priorities of this program is the recovery and recycling of waste from the metallurgical industry (the goal of "zero waste"). Increasing the utilization of slag in different fields of application represents an imperative way for a sustainable development, thus leading to the conservation of natural resources. Soil pH is a very important parameter because it plays an important role in the mobility of heavy metals, and an acidic pH is accompanied by dissolution processes of minerals and hydrated Fe, Mn and Al oxides on which heavy metal ions are adsorbed. The purpose of this study is to explore the opportunity of reusing the waste slag dumped in landfill can help remediation of the soil acidity.
