HOW SHOULD CULTIVATED MEAT BE LABELED?

Abstract
Abstract - Cultivated meat is meat produced directly from cells through the growth of muscle tissue from animal stem cells in alaboratory. Singapore is the first country to allow the commercial sale of cultivated meat. In US, the lab-grown chicken has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell on the market.It means that cultivated meat can be available in grocery stores and restaurants soon. Under the requirements of Federal Meat Inspection Act(FMIA) and Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA), all poultry products including cell-cultured meat labeling must be preapproved by Food Safety and Inspection Service(FSIS).Labels on food items can help consumers to understand the food nutrition facts and make healthier choices. This study explores how cultivated meat shouldbe labeled to help consumers understand the technology product, compare its nutrition with conventional meat, and make healthy choice.
