Paper Title
THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL SUPPORT AND SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS ON THE CAREER ADAPTABILITY OF MILITARY CADETS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Abstract
Abstract - Career adaptability refers to the ability to cope with the unpredictability and uncertainty of career development under the interaction between individuals and the environment. In other words, when the environment changes, the individual keeps an open and flexible attitude towards encountering various career phenomena. Some teenagers who graduated from high school in Taiwan choose military schools because of family factors. The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of parental support and family socioeconomic status (SES) on the career adaptability of military cadets. A total of 1,117 participants (846 males and 271 females) responded to the Parental Support Scale and the Career Adaptability Scale. We used multiple regression analysis to explain the influence of military cadets’ perceived parental support and SES on career adaptability. The results demonstrated that cadets’ parental support has an impact on their career adaptability, but SES and the interaction between the two have no significant impact on career adaptability. In conclusion, whether cadets have higher career adaptability is mainly related to the support of their parents, while family socioeconomic status has little influence. This study provided a reference for parents to guide their children in career development, and let children understand that SES is not the most important factor affecting their future career adaptability.
