Analysis of Learning Motivation of Junior High School Learners in Special Region of Yogyakarta and Their Interest in Stem-Approach Science Learning

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the learning motivation of junior high school students in Special Region of Yogyakarta and their level of interest in science learning with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach. This study used a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative data collected through questionnaires and qualitative data from interviews with students and teachers. The respondents were 25 educators and 200 junior high school students in Special Region of Yogyakarta consisting of various schools and classes. The results show that the learning motivation of junior high school students in Special Region of Yogyakarta tends to be high, especially for students who have interests and talents in certain academic fields. In addition, the students' interest level in STEM learning is also quite high, with students being more interested in science subjects associated with Science and Technology compared to Engineering and Mathematics. In this case, it is concluded that junior high school students in Special Region of Yogyakarta have high learning motivation and interest in STEM learning. Therefore, it is recommended that schools and teachers can utilize this potential by providing STEM learning that is more interesting and relevant to students' needs, as well as providing facilities and a conducive learning environment to strengthen students' learning motivation in STEM fields.
