The Analysis of Middle School Science Teachers Perspective in Madura Island (Indonesia) on Science Learning Integrated With Local Wisdom
Abstract
This research is a qualitative research that aims to find out the perspectives or responses of science teachers at middle school in Madura island towards integrating local wisdom into learning. This research was conducted on 40 teachers who teach science in Madura island. Data collection techniques were carried out using questionnaires and observation. The results of the data collection resulted in the conclusion that science learning in middle school currently rarely interacts directly with local wisdom students. Science teachers in Madura island usually adapt lessons that have been compiled in the teacher's book or student book from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Science teachers feel that local wisdom should be a source of learning in Indonesian language materials or cultural arts. Even though the integration of local wisdom in science learning has many benefits for teachers, learning, students, and the surrounding community. Previous studies said that science learning integrated with local wisdom can increase scientific literacy, creativity, critical thinking, and student learning outcomes, make learning more interesting, can increase interest in local wisdom, and can shape students' character. So, natural science learning should be integrated with local wisdom. Moreover, Madura island has a lot of local wisdom that can be brought up in science lessons, such as Jhamo Madura, RokatTase’ traditions, KarapanSapi, sapesono', how to make Keris and many more.
