Learning in Digital Age - Psychological and Cultural Influences on Online Distance Learning

Abstract
Online and digital learning has become increasingly widespread and intensive with the rapid advancement of networking and digitalization worldwide; and the recent pandemic of Covid-19 across the globe has forced education institutions worldwide to rapidly move into online distance learning on a large scale. It becomes meanwhile a trend that higher education institutions will continue to experience a high demand for digital content and expand the online learning. The new form of technology-based learning needs new pedagogical consideration. We conducted an international survey study to collect students’ subjective experiences and perceptions of online learning during the pandemic and to further investigate the impact of psychological factors and cultural context on online distance learning. The study findings shed light on how online learning can be efficiently conducted and organized for better students’ learning experience and learning out come.
