X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analysis of Sediments from Pardo River, São Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract
The X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technique is an important tool that can directly analyze different elements from sediments samples in environmental studies without their complete dissolution. In this study, two wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) spectrometers possessing rhodium anode have been utilized in order to analyze bottom sediments from Pardo River, São Paulo State, Brazil. Sediment profiles from six monitoring points located along the channel drainage were sampled and analyzed for major and minor constituents, yielding a relevant dataset for further studies in that important hydrological resource extensively used in water-supply systems.
