The Audit of Road Safety during Construction Stage for ROI ET-Yasothon Highway

Abstract
Road traffic accident turned to one of the global concerns and worldwide term which caused many deaths and injuries. Thailand was considered as the second rank of fatal road accident in the world with the daily count of 66 deaths or more than 24, 000 deaths annually (WHO, 2015). It is essential to provide the safety to roads. Road Safety Audit (RSA) is required with the purpose of offering the safer road network for all roadway users. The selected road for this study is National Highway−23 of Thailand from Roi Et to Yasothon (with total distance of 58.972 km). According to risk assessment, it ranked from intolerable to low on the basis of the crash likelihood. From the past issue, the accident records within six years periods (2014 – 2019) were considered to be high. Based on accident data and site inspection, the findings and recommendations are done in term of safety viewpoints. This paper aims to illustrate the safety audit and safety assessment by identifying deficiencies and enhancing safety performance during road works stage of National Highway−23 of Thailand.
