A Study on The Adoption of ICT Approaches in Teaching of Mathematics and Sciences: A Case Study of Public Secondary Schools in Kajiadocounty of Kenya.

Abstract
This study purposes to determine the adoption levels of use ICT by STEM teachers in teaching. It aims at determining the current teaching approaches, the factors that affect STEM teachers from utilizing ICT in teaching. The study also aims at establishing the challenges that teachers face and the benefits that may accrue by using ICT in teaching.A case study was carried out in selected secondary schools in KajiadoCounty of ,Kenya. From other researches, it was noted that current approaches to teaching STEM subjects include discussion, peer teaching, use of drill and practice and assignments. The teachers face a number of challenges as they integrate technology in their work. These challenges, from earlier studies are lack of support from the administration, failure to involve STEM in decision making and use of inappropriate software. Other challenges include use of obsolete hardware and in some cases unavailability of electricity. The research applied descriptive survey research design and a target population of 114 STEM teachers and a sample size of 59 respondents selected through random sampling. Data collected was analyzed using the SPSS version. The study findings were that most teachers use discussion, assignments and peer teaching while discovery learning is least used. It is also shown that teachers face challenges such as using unsuitable software, lack of funding and lacking adequate ICT skills. However despite the challenges, the benefits that arise from using technology are many and include student motivation, good in teaching abstract topics and making learning more interactive. The findings are significant in appreciating challenges that exist so that mitigation efforts can be put in place.
