Paper Title
The Contribution of Biomimicry in urban Design
Abstract
Urban planning is a vital process in determining the functionality of future cities. According to the researches, it is predicted that most of the half of the world’s citizens will dwell in towns and cities by the middle of this century, the others in the middle of the previous century. Thus, future cities are responsible for the huge dwellers, but how? Nowadays we have serious global problems and the concept of technologic sustainability may not be enough to solve such problems. This paper discusses the significance of "biomimicry" as a design methodology within the context of urban planning and design. Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s patterns. Janine Benyus, biologist and innovation consultant at Biomimicry, defines biomimicry as the new science that studies nature's models and then imitates or takes inspiration from these designs and processes to solve human problems.
