Paper Title
Does Emotional Coping Style Moderate The Relationship Between Stressors And Mental Health Among Vaccination Centre Volunteers During The Covid-19 Pandemic?
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic started to hit the country in late 2019, but the effect can still be seen among Malaysians. The effect is more prevalent among the PPV volunteers (PusatPemberianVaksin - Vaccine Distribution Centre) since they were the front-liners assisting those who came to get vaccinated. To date, studies among PPV volunteers are limited. The present study was undertaken to investigate the factors that lead to mental health among the PPV volunteers and identify the strategies that can be used to reduce the effect of these factors on mental health among them. An online questionnaire was distributed to the PPV volunteers, and 226 completed sets were returned. The results of moderated multiple regression analysis indicate that emotional coping style is able to moderate the relationship between recipient’s concerns and mental health factors. Moreover, emotional coping style is significant in moderating the relationship between knowledge/skills and physical illness. The findings suggest that dealing with recipients requires PPV volunteers to have an emotional coping style to avoid from having a prolonged mental health effect. Furthermore, they need to have the knowledge and skills to prevent them from experiencing physical illnesses. The implications of the study will be further discussed in the paper.
