Paper Title
Convenience Theory and Police Organisation Deviance in the United States
Abstract
Convenience theory postulates that when financial, ideological or political incentives present themselves, motivated actor may exploit opportunities and information asymmetries when organizational environments foster such behavior due to weak oversight, and poor accountability (Gottschalk, 2018, 2019). From the perspective of convenience theory, this study examines cases of police misconduct in Newark, NJ, Chicago, IL, and Maricopa, AZ. Findings reveal that convenience theory provides substantial insight into cases of misconduct in the field of American policing. Results suggest that convenience theory is a promising framework for examining misconduct in other facets of the criminal justice system.
