Preparing for the Future: Formulating a Framework on children Leadership Skills through Simulation Games
Abstract
The ECCE curriculum in Malaysia has continues focused to remain on achieving the quantitative academic targets by promoting ‘hard’ skills. Children are expected to be able to read and write before they go to primary school. However, these abilities alone do not completely develop children's skills and set up the upcoming leaders. Moreover, deliver the value of leadership skills are a challenging task to teach in a formal educational context. Therefore, creating an appropriate leadership skills model for children is necessary to develop their skills and using a simplified way to upskill such SG. This study aims to Formulate a comprehension Framework on leadership skills that need to be developed in children through their incorporation in simulation games (SG). This study uses a basic qualitative method. Applying a purposeful sampling method, the investigation bunch set up with maximum diversity. The data will be obtained through interviews with 15 kindergarten classrooms (teachers), (principals); early childhood development consultants, and educational games designers, who are assumed to be experts and experienced in using SG. The expected outcomes are developers in Malaysia could create simulation game depend on leadership skills model that directly led to specific learning outcomes and market their products accordingly engagement potential of an SG. Moreover, Malaysian educators could easily apply the leadership model in the classroom to develop leadership skills by using SG. The implications provide benefits to teachers and game developers through taking the right decision regarding selecting the best type of SG that helps to improve children’s leadership skills. For children, create opportunities for new leaders to emerge who can face future challenges by using enjoyable learning such as SG. Finally, for researchers to conduct research on how to incorporate other soft skills into simulation games for different levels and disciplines of education-based theoretical frameworks.
