Growth and Potential of Organic Value Chain Development in the Indian Eastern Himalayan Region: A Case Study on Subansiri Farmers Producer Company

Abstract
This study analyses the implementation of organic value chain management in the Indian Eastern Himalayan region, particularly the North-East states of Arunachal Pradesh, India. This study covered large cardamom growers and rural farmers from Arunachal Pradesh, India. With the increasing demands for organic products worldwide, there is vast potential for a state like Arunachal Pradesh, where farming communities use less or no artificial fertiliser in their farming process. So, through a case study the paper attempts to address the identifed challenges of the rural marginal farmers facing at different levels of the value chain management process. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey and interviews with the personnels of Farmers Integrated Groups (FIGs), local resource persons(LRP), and concerned district officials of the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. The present study attempts to analyse the status of organic value chain management among the rural large cardamom growers in the Indian Eastern Himalayan region.
