Model Strategy of Delivery Services in Islands: Literature Review

Abstract
Objective, Identifying problems that occur related to the impact of choosing unskilled birth attendants, trends in several countries in choosing birth attendants, strategies used by various countries to reduce maternal and infant mortality through birth attendant strategies, delivery service models from various literatures. Method, This is a narrative review using sources from the ScienceDirect, Elsivier and Scopus databases. Key terms such as birth attendant, primary, collaboration, referral. Of the 74 studies identified in the search phase, 22 were eligible for inclusion in this review. Results The results of the literature show several trends that occur in several countries regarding birth attendants. Developed countries have implemented a home-based delivery system, while for poor and developing countries the emphasis is on delivery in health care facilities. Conclusion Birth attendants consist of health workers (midwives, nurse midwives, general practitioners, obstetricians) and non-health workers (shamans or parajis). Factors that influence a person in choosing a birth attendant include: knowledge, attitudes, actions, beliefs, health services, health service providers, access to health services, family support.
