Fault Type Classification of Radial Distribution System based on Daubechies Wavelet
Abstract
Nowadays, Electric Supply Enterprise plans to increase power system reliability in distribution system because of the continuous distribution of electricity to the end user. Detecting the correct fault type and fault classification in radial distribution systems largely affects power system reliability. This paper proposes a technique for rapid detection of faults as well as classification of radial distribution system faults with the help of modern signal processing technique. Among the signal processing techniques, discrete wavelet analysis is powerful and useful in transient conditions of power systems. Different types of faults with the different locations are created in the MATLAB simulation environment. The generated transient fault currents are decomposed into detail coefficient level 1 by the use of Daubechies wavelet (db4). Detail coefficient values indicate that the proposed fault detection and classification is easy to classify in a short duration.
