Unit Cost of Health Services in the Islands: A Literature Review
Abstract
Until now, health problems in the islands are still common, access to health services in underdeveloped areas, borders, and islands stumbles on problems with health facilities, equipment, and supplies as well as human resources from health service providers. This literature review aims to look at the unit cost of health services in the islands. The literature sources in this study came from online databases of journals that provide free journal articles in PDF format, such as: Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar indexed quartile 1-3 Scopus in the last ten years with the keyword healthcare costs in islands. Of the 1,174 articles identified in the search phase, 8 articles were eligible for inclusion in this review. The article reveals that the health financing system in a country is one of the supporters of achieving access to health services in various forms. According to all journals, unit cost plays an important role in overcoming access problems and providing input to policy makers in setting tariffs, planning and controlling costs that influence the decisions of people in the islands to obtain health services.
