Paper Title
School Improvement Plan for School Management Teams towards Efficient Running of the School

Abstract
Previous studies have revealed lack of planning in the implementation of School Improvement Plan’s (SIP) in schools in South Africa and abroad. The school management teams (SMT’s) are responsible for the success of the implementation of the school improvement plan at their schools. This study was undertaken at ten (10) purposely selected secondary schools in Motheo and Fezile Dabi education districts in the Free State province respectively to determine an extent to which school management team (SMT) ensure effective and efficient of implementation of SIP in secondary schools. Data were gathered by means of focus group discussions with SMT’s at the sampled secondary schools. The results indicated a thorough understanding and interpretation of the concept by members of SMT’s in the sampled schools. However, SMT members exhibited lack of credibility with regard aspects dealing instruction, implementation, and participation of the SIP process. Results also indicated a need for a “master plan” strategy for SIP implementation. The study proposes a model of School Improvement Plan (SIP) that would assist the School Management Team (SMT) to attain set goals.
