Estimate the Adverse Effects of Ribavirin on some Sperm Characteristics and The Protective Effects of Lepidiummeyenii in Albino Male Rats

Abstract
The objective of current work is estimating the protective effects of Lepidiummeyenii against the adverse effects of Ribavirin on some sperm characteristics in albino male rats. 20 adult rats were utilized in the current work and divided to four groups. The current study was conducted from April to July 2021. The results demonstrated that the counts of sperm in ribasure group show significant (P<0.05) decrease compare with control. The counts of sperm in Maca and treated groups show no significant changes (P<0.05) compare with control. Otherwise, the motility percentage in ribasure group show significant (P<0.05) decrease compare with control, while the motility percentage in ribasure group show significant (P<0.05) decrease compare with control. The sperm abnormality, the head and tail defects, in ribasure group show significant (P<0.05) elevate compare with control. The sperm abnormality in Maca and treated groups show no significant changes (P<0.05) compare with control. Also, The levels of MDA and catalase in ribasure group show significant changes (P<0.05) compare with control. Whereas, the levels of MDA and catalase in Maca and treated groups show no significant changes (P < 0.05) compare with control. t can be concluded that the important pharmacological role of Maca extract as an antioxidant agent and promote of sperm counts and motility. Keywords - Lepidiummeyenii; Ribavirin; oxidative stress; sperm morphology.
