Ictsupport Provision, Involvement And Literacy Facilitation: Three Unidimensional Constructs Or One Multidimensional Construct?

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate how stress in connection with the use of ICT may be managed through three different institutional measures, that is, support provision, involvement and literacy facilitation. Our first objective is to evaluate whether each of these measures is able to inhibit ICT users level of stress. Our second objective is to evaluate the joint effect of these three inhibitors on ICT users level of stress. Stated more specifically, we want to investigate whether each of the measures is capable of producing an effect, or whether the combination of all three measures is a prerequisite for an effect to occur? The results from an empirical intervention indicate that a model with the three inhibitors as one-dimensional constructs explains most variance in users level of stress. A more adequate model fit for such a one-dimensional-based model, compared with a multidimensional-based model, supports this finding. Thus, the study contributes to research on techno stress by theorizing and validating how inhibitors influence users level of ICT strain. Keywords: Technostress, Inhibitors, Strain.
