The Implications of Supply Chain Disruptions During Covid19 on Micro-Entrepreneurs

Abstract
Micro-entrepreneurs’ incomes are among the severely hit by the covid19 pandemic. The micro-entrepreneurs are small traders who placed a very trivial capital to start their business, of which the threat of failure can be regarded as minimal, with a high chance to earn a substantial income. Most micro-entrepreneurs are night market hawkers, Night market hawkers operate in an open space at designated locations as stipulated by the local authority. It is an open-air shopping concept with face-to-face transactions between seller and buyer. However, during the covid19, an abrupt halt to physical transactions impacted the supply chain of micro-entrepreneurs greatly, especially among the night market hawkers. Thus, the purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the implications of supply chain disruptions during covid19 on micro-entrepreneurs specifically the night market hawkers. This study also aims to elicit factors leading to the predicaments faced by night market hawkers. This study adopts a qualitative research approach to elicit information. The data were collected through several interview sessions with 15 Pasar Malam hawkers. Data were collected from three states in Malaysia (Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor). The findings found that there are five factors that contribute to the predicaments faced by the Night Market Hawkers. Keywords - COVID-19, Hawkers, Challenges, Small Businesses and Night Market
