Paper Title
Utilization of Landfill Gas For Energy Production And Relevant Technology Options
Abstract
Landfill biogas (LFG) is a natural byproduct of organic material anaerobic decomposition in municipal solid waste. LFG mostly contains 50 % methane and 50 % carbon dioxide with less than 1 %nonmethane organic compounds and trace of inorganic compounds (although the methane and carbon dioxide ratio depends on the type of refuse being disposed of. LFG is e potent heat trapping gas, but on the other hand, instead of escaping into the air, LFG can be captured and used as an energy source. This second way of LFG utilization would provide a lot of environmental and economic benefits. This paper estimates the potential of landfill gas recovery of the landfill of Tirana city and a short review of technology options used to recover energy by it producing heat and power.
