ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AGAINST CERTAIN HUMAN INFECTIOUS SERIOUS BACTERIAL DISEASES IN PALESTINE

Abstract
Phytomedicine which is known also as the herbal medicine uses various plant materials in preventive, therapeutic processes and healing properties. Such medicinehas been practiced worldwide since the ancient times for the prevention and treatment of the diseases. An experimentto study the antibacterial activity of crude saps of some plants against test bacteria that are causative agents of human diseases was carried out at the microbiology laboratory of the Arab American University of Palestine. Evaluation was done by measuring the width of the zones of bacterial growth inhibition using the Kirby Bauer test. The best antimicrobial action was achieved by Eucalyptus, garlic, carob and bitter almondcompared with the other tested plants.Eucalyptusand garlicand their mixtures were the strongest plants with antibacterial agents among the four plants against all types of the test bacteria. Crude saps of garlic and the mixture of such sap withcarobrevealed strong growth inhibition of Staphylococcus aureuswhereas, Micrococcus luteus was strongly inhibited byEucalyptus, garlic, and carob, and their mixtures. Saps of almond, garlic, and Eucalyptusas well as the mixture of garlic and Eucalyptuswere effective antibacterial agents againstEscherichia. coli. Significant growth inhibition ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was achieved by crude saps ofboth Eucalyptusand garlic, whereas, the growth of both Bacillus subtilisand Proteus vulgaris were strongly hampered by the garlic.Regarding the Klebsiella pneumoniae, it was inhibited intermediately by most plant saps except the almond This research shows the importance of plants in Palestinian territories and their use in herbal medicines because they contain antibacterial agents and the possibility of use in the treatment of diseases that affect humans.
