Abstract
Various countries across the world have adopted curriculum leadership approach as an appropriate approach to improve learner performance. Multiple studies have been conducted in Asia and North America around the concept curriculum leadership primarily to highlight how important this form of leadership can positively assist in improving learners’ performance in the schools. It is however important to note that even though curriculum leadership has been viewed as an important tool that can be used to address poor learner performance, very limited studies around curriculum leadership have been conducted in South Africa. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to explore the influence of curriculum leadership on learner performance particularly in South Africa. The findings indicate that even though curriculum leadership is acknowledged in the South African policy documents, it is implementation and implications has not been given much consideration. There little evidence of measures being introduced by the South African government to trypromote the importance the influence of curriculum leadership in schools particularly to try improve learners’ performance. Researchers recommend more studies should put emphasises on investigating the influence of curriculum leadership on learner performance.
