In-Vitro Anticancer Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Capparis Zeylanica (L) Stem

Abstract
Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice in most cancer cases rather than radiation and surgical operations. Medicinal plants have always remained a choice of treatment in many diseased conditions due to the availability of isolated novel phytoconstituents with minimum side effects. Capparis zeylanica Linn., family Capparidaceae, also shows promising anticancer activity. To study the anticancer activity of Capparis zeylanica stem by using an MTT assay. The ethanolic extract of Capparis zeylanica stem was screened against the HT-29 cell line at various concentrations. By using the MTT assay, the anticancer effect of the ethanolic... extracts on cell inhibition was investigated. The results showed that an ethanolic extract of Capparis zeylanica stem inhibited the growth of HT-29 cells at an IC50 concentration of 210 μg/ml. The current study discovered that Capparis zeylanica stem contains several essential chemical constituents extracted with ethanol as a solvent that can be used further in cancer care management.
