The Early Effects of Corona Virus on the Indexes of Emergent Financial Markets: Case of Jordan

Abstract
This article investigates the global and local Influences of the COVID-19 epidemic on the index of the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). The study covers two sub periods during 2020. In the first period, there are no confirmed cases of the virus had recorded in Jordan, whereas the second period witnessed a little and stable number of recorded cases. Multiple regressions used in this study. The results revealed that globally, COVID-19 had a significant positive effect on the ASE index in first period, while this effect was significantly negative in the second period. Locally, in the second period, COVID-19 had a significant positive effect on the ASE index. The ratio of P/E had a significant positive effect on the ASE index in two periods. We hope that these results be useful to decision makers and those involved in the Amman financial market.
