Socio-Economic Status of Tribes in Tripura: A Dynamic Analysis

Abstract
The level of the socio-economic development varies considerably between tribal and non-tribal population, between one tribe and another tribe and even among different sub-group of tribal groups in the State. These disparities and diversities make tribal development and micro level planning of tribal at the grass root level imperative. Present research paper is an attempt to study the socio-economic status of tribal communities and disparities in Tripura. The objectives of this study are (i) to compare different tribes in terms of their economic status and (ii) to find out the determinants of economic status. To analyse the data, a Community Development Index (CDI) has been developed. The basic purpose of computing CDI is to know status and development of tribal communities achieved in the State. The weights in the computation of a CDI are determined by using Factor Loadings and Eigen Valuesfrom Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and rank has been made among all the selected tribes accordingly.
