The Impact of Cryptocurrency Market Development on The U.S. Banks‟ Deposit Variability And S&P 500 Index

Abstract
This research aims to examine the impact of cryptocurrency market development on the U.S. banks’ deposit variability and S&P 500 index. Desigb/methodology/approach - The variables to be used in the research methodology are clearly defined as: Cryptocurrency market capitalization, US bank deposits, S&P 500 index and T-bill. The dissertation uses the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to examine the relationship between the four variables of interest. Findings - Given all other variables are not changed, Vector error correction model regression shows that cryptocurrency capitalization is significantly related negatively to US Bank Deposits. On the other hand, Vector error correction model regression shows that cryptocurrency capitalization is significantly related positively to S&P 500 index.Research limitations/implications - Cryptocurrency investors may deposit their gain in stock market to shield their investment from a high risk associated with cryptocurrency transaction. Apossible extension of this research is to examine the impact of cryptocurrencies market capitalization expansion on the bank deposits variability in different regions such asEurope, East Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
