Effect of 6-Week Weight Training on Playing Ability of Soccer

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of 6-week weight training on playing ability of soccer. In this study, the subjects for data collection were drawn from theTiddim Road Athletic Union FC (TRAU FC), Kwakeithel, Imphal West, Manipur. The sample group of the study consisted of 30 Soccer players who participated in the state league level competition. The subjects were selected randomly from the group of soccer players attending regular weight training programme at the Tiddim Road Athletic Union FC (TRAU FC), Kwakeithel, Imphal West, Manipur. The age of the subjects ranged between 18-24 years. The researcher had selected the following variable for the present study: independent variables such as selected weight training. The weight training programme include power clean, back squats, bench press, shoulder press, chest press and sit-upsthe data were collected from before and after (6) six weeks i.e. 42 days, five times a week each for 50 minutes before morning soccer practice. The participants were tested on the Mor- Christain General Soccer Ability Skill Test Battery and data obtained from the were analysed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) Version 20. Descriptive statistical methods were used in the evaluation of the data. The paired t- test statistical technique was employed. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The finding of the present study has significant effect on weight training on playing ability of soccer. In conclusion 6-week weight training programme had numerous effects on playing ability of soccer. Keywords - Weight Training, Soccer, Ability, Skill, Battery
