Paper Title
Hematological Profile in Patients with Alcoholic Liver Disease

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The American Medical Association (AMA) states that alcoholism is a chronic disease with environmental, genetic, psychological factors showing its progress and manifestations Anemia is common in Alcoholic Liver Disease and the causes are multifactorial ranging from abnormal coagulation profile to haemostatic alteration from malnutrition, portal hypertension, and alcohol itself being toxic to the bone marrow causing bone marrow suppression. AIM To study the clinical profile and type of anemia in Alcoholic Liver Disease METHODS The “Study of Anemia in Alcoholic Liver Disease” is the descriptive cross-sectional study. 60 randomly selected cases of alcoholic liver disease were included. Minimum age of the cases was 18 years with alcohol use of atleast 5 years with either Alcoholic Fatty liver , Alcoholic Hepatitis or Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis proven on Ultrasonography. OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS Out of the 60 cases selected 55 were male and 5 were female. It was observed that Nutritional deficieny like Iron and Vitamin B12 are the most common causes of anemia in Alcoholic liver disease. Moreover Hemorrhage in the gastrointestinal tract is a major causative factor for anemia in alcoholics which can either lead to a episode of acute blood loss or can contribute towards iron deficiency if the blood loss is chronic. CONCLUSION On the basis of result we conclude that moderate anemia was the most common type of anemia. Nutritional deficiencies like Iron, Vitamin B12 and folic acid were the most common causes of anemia followed by blood loss. Keywords - Anemia , Iron , Liver Disease ,Vitamin B12
