Paper Title
Performing Arts and Grit in Western Japan: A Trial Data Analysis
Abstract
This paper aimed to find out the causal relationships between participation in performing arts and non-cognitive skills, especially grit. To investigate this relationship, the author conducted a unique internet survey in 2020, which contained questions about the experience of arts activities as out-of-school activities in pre-elementary school days, elementary school days, and junior high school days. The sample size was 543. In terms of the method, propensity score matching was utilized, and the resultsshowed some statistically positive effects of performing arts activities on grit. Given these results, not only educational activities but also arts activities should be concerned with reducing disparity.
