Implementing a CSR Project: A Documentation of the PLDT InfoTech Outreach Program
While it is important for corporations to gain profit, it is equally essential that they give back and help others who are in need. And this is the spirit of what is called the corporate social responsibility (CSR). UNIDO defines CSR as “a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders”. Helping others to change lives has always been the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company’s ideology. For this reason, the PLDT has been doing various projects as part of their CSR and one of them is the PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program. To enable the participants acquire the essential digital skills for the 21st century teaching, learning, and working is the program’s goal. This program has been in existence since 2004 and for the past three years, the PLDT has partnered with the University of the Philippines Open University for its implementation. To be able to give those interested an idea on how a CSR project is being executed, this study documented and shared first-hand information on lessons learned and best practice in doing CSR activities.
