The Role of Dispositional Trust and Institutional Trust in E-Government Acceptance

Abstract
Citizen confidence in e-government and technology is becoming an important topic and is attracting more and more research. However, the role of trust, its impact and risk perception are imperative to the wide-spread of e-government services. In this study, researchers empirically evaluated the model for measuring e-government acceptance consisting institutional trust and dispositional trust. Only one hypothesized relationships was significantly supported. Using a structured questionnaire derived from the literature, data was collected from 549 e-government users in Malaysia. Data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that institutional trust (β = 0.39, p < 0.01) was positively related to intention to continue usage explaining a total of 16% variance. The findings of this study can be used to assess the success of e-government systems from the standpoint of Malaysian e-government users.
