Coopetition Strategy and its Impact on Internationalization: A Case Study of Moroccan SMEs

Abstract
We attempt in this paper to explore the impact of coopetition strategy on the internationalization of Moroccan SMEs. As the concept can take different meanings, we are rather interested in coopetition which can be defined as cooperation between competitors. To this end, we conducted a study to examine two SMEs and two export consortia which is a concrete example of a coopetition strategy, where small and medium businesses from the same sector form a group to collaborate in their way to international markets. We chose qualitative methodology based on multiple case studies, using document analysis and interviews with semi-directive interview guides to collect data. The exploratory study findings have shown that overall, coopetition has a positive impact on SMEs' internationalization, however, the strategy is not without risks requiring suitable management.
