Ayurveda Management of Tamakashwasa (Bronchial Asthma)

Abstract
Tamaka shwasa( Bronchial asthma ) is a vatakaphaja disorder seen commonly in indian population . Vatakaraka and kaphakaraka nidanas along with dust , pollen , smoke exposure and exercise leads to the disease Tamaka shwasa. According to modern medicine , the underlying pathologies of bronchial asthma include allergy or hypersensitivity reaction to an allergen leading to secretion of histamine by mast cells in bronchioles . This leads to spasm of bronchiolar smooth muscles and congestion by excessive secretion of mucus in this region . This leads to reduced ventilation and difficulty in breathing known as Shwasa. Congestion of bronchiolar lumen with mucus is favorable for secondary bacterial infection followed by repeated cough and expectoration . The patient feels unrest while lying flat on the bed and releived from it with sitting position . ( Orthopnoea ). Ayurveda medicines are having better role in the management of Tamaka shwasa. The present paper discusses the role of Ayurveda medicine in the management of Tamaka shwasa (Bronchial asthma ). Keywords - Bronchial asthma, Ayurveda , Rasayana .
