Abstract
Understanding the influences of Facebook on the psychological wellbeing of users has become a priority because of the inextricable use of Facebook in our daily lives. Hence, the research trends and impacts of its use need to be studied and understood. This study reviewed the literature on the linkage of Facebook use and users’ PWB. The results revealed that higher education students received more emphasis; more focus should also be put on other buddies of Facebook users such as working adults and older. Few studies were conducted in junior and secondary schools. Many of the studies were conducted in developed countries, but little emphasis put on developing countries. In the past years, most research adopted the questionnaire survey research method. There was little research adopting an experimental research method. Although the findings were mixed, most study results revealed that Facebook usage was positively linked with users' Psychological well-being. But also, negative links have been identified, which have important implications for different bodies to be aware of how it could impact on users’ psychological well-being. The findings are used to provide suggestions for future studies.
