The Impact of Mitrovica Landfill Wastewater on the Iber River, Kosova

Abstract
River degradation and its pollution represents one of the greatest problems for our country. The uncontrolled waste disposal, the drainage of wastewater and other polluters are representing a huge risk for the rivers. Eventhough Kosovo has passeed many laws, administrative orders and state’s water strategy, the lack of implementation and imposition of fines has created a situation that is out of control regarding the management and safeguard of the rivers from pollution and drainage of polluting waters. Ibër river, besides being polluted by the sewage and by waste thrown by the citizens, is also polluted by waters that are drained from Mitrovica’s landfill, which is nearby its flow.Taking into consideration the location of the waste landfill and the proximity with Ibër’s flow, the possibility of pollution is evident. This scientific researchwas carried out primarily by determining 3 locations where the samples were taken in order to continue further with laboratory analyses. The samples were taken and analyzed during the year of 2018 and 2019. The analyzed physical and chemical parameters have shown different variations, such as: temperature, pH, color, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand etc. Keywords - Ibër river, landfill, physical and chemical parameters, wastwater.
